Although we are in the business of serving our community every day
by protecting and providing for their safety and security, our members go above
and beyond the call of duty by Giving Back to the Community in the
following ways on their own time.

MUSCULAR
DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the lead charity of Union Fire Fighters
across the country. For years Moorhead Fire Fighters has proudly supported
the MDA by staffing telephones and during the annual Labor Day Telethon.
Last year we donated $4,125.00, having been raised during our annual Moorhead Fire Fighters MDA
Gold Tournament held at the Meadows Gold Course in the fall. Current
sponsorships, team and individual player openings still exist for our next
Moorhead Fire Fighters MDA Golf Tournament. Further information is
available in our News & Events page. We
raised an additional $1,300.00 through Fill-the-Boot campaigns in front of local
grocery stores, purchased $221.00 worth of supplies and sent 3 members to the
MDA camp this summer. Moorhead Fire Fighters sponsored a hole in the
Hooters MDA Golf Tournament last year to the tune of $525.00 and last year the
International Association of Fire Fighters, our parent Union, raised
$18.3 million for MDA.
SALVATION ARMY
The salvation army serves an important roll for the fire department.
Their disaster services unit provides rehabilitation services for emergency
workers and victim on the fireground. They provide cooling services for
overheated Fire Fighters, provide hot and cold drinks and energy dense snack
food to keep our staff working through an emergency.
In appreciation, we help raise funds by ringing the bells during the holiday
season at selected Moorhead locations.
ROGER MARIS CANCER CENTER
Our local donated $500.00 last year and have regularly had members
participating in the Home
Run/Walk.
IAFF BURN FUND
Our local and union members support the Burn Fund by purchasing calendars
published each year by the International Association of Fire Fighters.
These calendars feature award winning pictures of our union member in action the
previous year. The proceeds help with treatment, counseling, and adjusting
to life after suffering with burn injuries. 2005 calendar information will
be posted on this site late this fall.
LOCAL KIDS
Moorhead Fire Fighters supports our local kids.
Every year we support the local MDA Summer Camp for youth with diseases
supported by the MDA. Not only do we give financially, but we partner with
the Fargo Fire Fighters and spend a Fire Fighetrs day with the kids playing ball
and other sports, playing games, attending a dance and just spending time having
the same kind of fund most other kids spend at the lake or at summer camp.
This year through the gracious help of the Morris
Fire Department we were able to allow the kids to pretend to be real Fire
Fighters and practice putting out a fire with our Knock Down House (see the
picture on our news & events page.
UNION
MEMBERS
The members of Local 1323 are people helping people. When our union
members are in need; physical, emotional, financial, technical, personal; we are
there. Our union provides a valuable support network to assist in times of
need. Beyond that, all of the International Association of Fire Fighters
locals are networked together to provide assistance from outside the local
community in times of need. Add to that the many benefits that come with
union membership that are available to all our union members; discounted
insurance, loan, charge card and banking rates, fair labor representation, and
political political involvement, and it is clear; we are people helping people.
THE COMMUNITY
Our union members give to the community on a regular
basis, over and above the requirements of their jobs. Each member
possesses unique individual skills that are employed to better the City of
Moorhead, it's residents, and the community as a whole. Carpentry,
computer, mechanical, administrative, teaching and many other skills are used to
better our community, quite often during personal time.
In addition our Union Local as a whole has a history of
bringing our resources to bear for people in time of need in our area as
situations warrant.
Adopt-a-Highway
We maintain mile markers 11 through 13 of I-94 in Minnesota. Twice a
year we clean the ditches to help keep our highways clean. Honk when you
pass by the sign for good luck!
