Our department does more than just put out fires. We're also not simply sitting around playing cards waiting for a fire to occur. The wide array of services we provide and the preparation and training required to deliver them keep us busy every day.
A training session on-shift, covering a new piece of hazardous materials equipment at out headquarters station.The "Infrared Spectrometer" passes a beam of infrared light across a solid or liquid product. A sensor receives the light with variations of the wavelength based upon chemical properties of the substance. A library of test reading information is used to match an unknown substance and identify the product so we can then determine it's hazards and how to deal with it.
