MSUM Hazardous Material Spill

A small mercury spill led to the quarantine of more than 100 people at Minnesota State University Moorhead Tuesday. Officials say a maintenance worker accidentally knocked over a small container of mercury around 7:00 AM.

The hazardous materials team was called in and four buildings in the area were locked down. Potentially contaminated individuals were released after about three hours, but they had to leave their shoes for testing.

School leaders say their campus notification system by email actually failed today. Warnings instead were posted on the school's website.
