MSUM Mercury Spill

A mercury spill at the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus today landed more than 100 people in quarantine. Four buildings were also put on lock down.

Officials say a maintenance worker accidentally knocked over a small container of mercury around seven this morning. He blocked off the area, but then continued to work in several other buildings on campus, potentially contaminating a much larger area.

At this time, officials do not believe anyone was hurt, but it is safe to say it scared a lot of people. School leaders say their email campus notification system failed today. Warnings instead were posted on the school's website.
