Moorhead Fire

Flames destroyed two garages, and damaged surrounding apartments this afternoon, at a complex in the Romkey Park area. Our windy weather helped spread the flames quickly.

The fire call came in around two Monday afternoon at the time the wind was blowing at 30 miles an hour and gusting up to 45 miles an hour. Firefighters say it was a very dangerous situation. Two garages were engulfed when they arrived. The wind was spreading the fire in an area where several apartment buildings are sitting in close proximity.

There were also power lines down and the heavy smoke was causing visibility problems. No one was hurt in the fire, but it was a very scary situation for residents. Four families are homeless tonight. Part of the roof of one of the apartments had to be taken off to get to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There are some reports of a suspicious individual in one of the garages before the fire started, but fire officials are not confirming that at this time.
