Fire Officers
in the MSCTC area met to discuss the future of fire training.
From
the Technical College side, it appears that training is being priced out of the
market. Several colleges are struggling with how to provide Firefighter I
and II classes and are also having difficulty with their sectional schools. A
Fall mini sectional school was announced for October 27th and 28th this
year. March 8th and 9th will be the Sectional School in Detroit Lakes in
2008. Rick
Loveland, Fire Training Coordinator for Minnesota State Community and Technical
College discussed the possibility of area Departments developing partnerships to
provide their own basic skills training. An idea that was discussed was
round-robin style swapping of instructors between Departments to freshen up the
in-house training. He is also exploring some web options, providing
training resources on-line, an e-newsletter, and distance learning classes for
annual OSHA refresher. He
discussed upcoming NFA Train the Trainers and the new requirements for
certification with the State Training Board.
