Firefighters were the first to discover a fire behind the
Headquarters Station on Thursday. Engine 2, from the South Station
was returning back to quarters after refueling at the City Garage when a
crew member noticed the fire.
"We were driving by and saw fire burning under the truck up into
the engine compartment," said Firefighter
Dwayne.
"Should I be concerned about this?" asked Assistant
Chief Greg as he watched Engine 2 make a full circle around the
Headquarters station with red lights and sirens to fight the fire in the
1100 block of 2nd Ave N late in the afternoon. Acting
Lieutenant John didn't announce what they were up to until they
arrived at the burning pickup. John drew the curiosity of Greg and
the crew watching from the office, since they hadn't heard anyone being
dispatched to a call.
The fast actions of the Engine limited damage to the engine
compartment.
