Search & Ventilation Training on 4th St

The destruction of buildings on the West side of 4th Street is providing us with some unique opportunities. We often obtain homes to do live fire training in. Commercial building are usually to valuable to allow us to do serious training. In this case, any damage we do wont cause the least bit of harm.

These buildings offer several different construction features; allowing us to practice different ventilation techniques. In fact, every roof we cut into was constructed differently.

We need to cut holes in roof members at times to allow trapped hot gasses and fire out. This actually creates less damage by allowing us to extinguish a fire more quickly. Often we can use ventilation techniques to draw fire away from areas that haven't burned yet.

We also practiced methods of regaining our orientation and escaping a building if we become lost and/or disorientated in a fire.

The buildings are scheduled for demolition later this year to make way for redevelopment.
