Search & Rescue Training on 4th St

The destruction of buildings on the West side of 4th Street is providing us with some unique opportunities. We often obtain homes to do live fire training in. Commercial building are usually to valuable to allow us to do serious training. In this case, any damage we do wont cause the least bit of harm.

These buildings offer several different heights and construction features; allowing us to practice different search techniques.

We practiced searches using our thermal imaging cameras as well as operating in the blind when the smoke is so heavy you can't see your hand in front of your face. We loaded the buildings with furniture collected from the boulevards during clean-up week to give the apartments a realistic feel.

The buildings are scheduled for demolition later this year to make way for redevelopment.
