Scavenger Hunt for Training

 May 6th, 2005

You may have noticed Moorhead Firefighters cruising the streets with trailers, throwing furniture and other items on the back, or you may have simply seen them driving by with loads of junk.

These items are not for use back at home, or even in the station.  These furnishings will serve a valuable training purpose later this year.  We have several commercial and residential buildings that we will use to practice searching for victims during the blackout conditions we find in a smoke filled occupancy.  Furniture adds a dimension of realism, and provides clutter and obstacles to work around as if we were doing the job for real.

When were done with training simulations we will use these furnishings while actually burning buildings to the ground to simulate fully occupied apartments and homes.  Furniture changes the dynamics of burning, and again adds the realism we use to maintain our proficiency.

When you see us hauling around your old trashy furniture, know that this embarrassing task produces incredible results in our noble calling to save lives and property.
