About 200 gallons of diesel fuel spilled across the road in Moorhead on Monday morning after a semi jackknifed and struck a car.

The semi was northbound on Eighth Street near Center Avenue at about 7 a.m. when it hit a car carrying a Rothsay, Minn., couple, said Sgt. Tory Jacobson of the Moorhead Police Department.

The driver of the car was taken to Innovis Hospital in Fargo for minor injuries, Jacobson said. The semi driver was cited for driving too fast for the conditions.

The names of those involved in the accident weren't available Monday night.

The Moorhead Fire Department spent about 90 minutes cleaning up the fuel spill, a department spokesman said.

Authorities said the fuel didn't enter the city's drainage system.
