A Moorhead family is displaced after a fire destroyed their mobile home
Wednesday.
The residents were home when the fire started, but escaped without any
injuries, said Assistant Moorhead Fire Chief Greg Doeden.
Firefighters responded to the fire about 5:20 p.m. at Greenwood Mobile
Home Park, 1700 3rd Ave. S., lot 113.
Moorhead Fire Marshal Rich Duysen said the fire started in a center
bedroom. The cause is under investigation.
Robin Martin, the park’s manager, said Elizabeth Perez lives in the
home. Perez, her daughter and three young grandchildren were there when
the fire started.
Officials said the home was a total loss. It was an older mobile home
with paneling instead of sheet rock, which tends to burn quickly, Duysen
said.
“It’s just like a chimney lying on its side,” he said of the
older mobile homes.
Greenwood resident Nancy Hepola said she saw the flames when she looked
out her window. “They were huge,” she said. “I wanted to cry when I
saw the flames.”
Hepola said the firefighters had the fire under control quickly, but
the home was already extensively damaged.
Mark Bulard was riding his bike from Hornbacher’s to his residence on
17th Street South when he heard the sirens.
The fire appeared to have started in the center of the home, with
flames coming out the windows and a hole in the middle of the roof, Bulard
said.
The home had a working smoke detector, Duysen said.
The family did not have insurance on the mobile home, Martin said. The
mobile home park is accepting donations for the family at its main office.

The Red Cross provided a room at the Motel 75 for the family, Duysen
said.
Wednesday’s blaze came a month after a serious Moorhead fire caused
the death of an elderly couple. Hosea and Emma Rose died Nov. 2 from
injuries suffered in a house fire at 1311 3rd Ave. S.
