Chief Hewitt Sworn in at Council Meeting

July 19th, 2004

While Chief Joel Hewitt has been on-the-job since the beginning of the month, and officially accepted the position earlier this year, he was officially sworn in during the Monday night council meeting.

Bagpipers from Heather and Thistle Pipes and Drums in Fargo played to march the Chief and department members into and out of council chambers, and played during the ceremony.  Most of the Department members, both on and off-duty attended as well as Retired Chief Marty Soeth who recited the Fire Fighters Prayer.

Chief Officers from Fargo Fire, West Fargo Fire & Roseville Fire (Chief Hewitt's hometown fire department) were present as well as Hewitt's mother and girlfriend.

Hewitt recited his sworn oath and received possession of the official Moorhead Fire Department Axe, our symbol of the authority, pride and traditions of Moorhead Fire & Rescue.  The gold plated parade axe, with our department patch etched into the axe head hangs proudly in the Fire Chief's Office.
