| Moorhead Fire is equipped to extinguish many types of fires.
Our initial response to most fires consists of 2 engines and a rescue with
between 7 and 9 personnel. During normal weekday work hours, our Chief,
Fire Marshal and Training Director are also available to respond to fire calls.
If more personnel are needed (and at a fire of any reasonable size, they will
be), our off-duty personnel carry pagers and are "called back" to the
station. Here they either respond to the scene using equipment still at
the station, or staff the station for any additional incoming calls.
We also have a mutual aid agreement with the Fargo Fire Department. We
have both called for an additional engine company from each other, and actually
expect to do this during sizable fires to act as a "Rapid Intervention
Team" or R.I.T. The R.I.T. is designed only to rescue Fire Fighters
that become trapped or are otherwise in need of immediate rescue at a fire.
We are also a member of the Clay County Mutual Aid Association. Any
fire department in this association may call on each other for personnel and/or
equipment assistance.
If staffing levels allow, our Ladder truck will also respond to potential
commercial fires and fires in buildings over 2 stories. If staffing levels
are too low, this truck would respond with call-back personnel.
Smaller fires such as dumpsters, vehicles, and small brush fires dictate the
response of one engine only.
We are equipped with foams to fight petroleum and chemical fires. We
have special nozzles to penetrate into confined spaces that are hard for Fire
Fighters to enter, and have special extinguishing agents for electrical and
chimney fires.
